Fantastically Fun (Virtual) Fridays: November 23, 2011

We know today isn't Friday, but since tomorrow is Thanksgiving, we are taking Thursday and Friday off from posting regularly scheduled content, making today virtual Friday.  We hope that all of you celebrating have a wonderful holiday, filled with friends and family, good food, and a good afternoon nap.

If you are still looking for ideas for your Thanksgiving dinner, and want to try something other than the classic turkey, mashed potatoes, and stuffing, here are some ideas for your feast that are inspired by some of our favorite works of science fiction and fantasy.

Here are some of the other fun things we found around the internet for you this week:

  • Last week we posted a link to The Hunger Games trailer--this week, we have a link to the trailer for Brave, Pixar's first feature film with a female lead.  And it looks pretty good, too. (YouTube)
  • Ian McKellen blogs about hobbits and fencing. (mckellan.com)
  • Jimmy Fallon sings the Reading Rainbow theme, as interpreted by the Doors. (Late Night With Jimmy Fallon)
  • What the Necronomicon can do for you. (YouTube)
  • The very, very clever 1944 version of The Lord of the Rings movie.  Starring, ahem, Humphrey Bogart as Frodo.  Smeagol, in particular, is hilarious. (YouTube)
  • A story that Stephen King wrote at the tender age of 9. (Algonquin Books Blog)
  • The Garden of Cosmic Speculation--a garden in Scotland inspired by math and science. (Reckon)
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
