Our Fantastic Week Ahead: November 7

Although it's a little late in coming, we'd like to start this week by congratulating the World Fantasy Award Winners, including Nnedi Okorafor for her novel Who Fears Death.  We've talked about Nnedi's work here at Fantasy Matters several times before (including this essay on sidekicks in fantasy literature, this essay on those who live "in-between" in the novel, and this look at one of her short stories), and we all agree that it's fantastic.  Congratulations to Nnedi and the rest of the winners--you can find the complete list over at Locus Online.

We have a lot of interesting things going on here this week for you--we have the first installment in our "Our Fantastic Favorites" series, along with Dan Lammert's thoughts on speedruns through video games and another contribution to our look at key moments in Doctor Who.  Also this week, Valparaiso University (in northwest Indiana) opens its production of Hansel and Gretel; we have an interview with Andy White, the director, which provides some thoughts about the power of fairy tales and their adaptations.  We hope that you'll come back often to see what we're up to, and if you're in the Chicago/northwest Indiana area, we'd encourage you to go see the show!
