Fantastically Fun Fridays: January 27, 2012

Happy Friday, everyone!  If you're looking for a project for the weekend, you might consider helping out Emil Johansson, a student in Sweden who is working to create a complete family tree of all of the characters in Tolkien's Lord of the Rings universe.  Here's a brief sample of what he's done:

While Johansson himself has already included 645 characters, he is interested in hearing from others to get help with the project, so if genealogy (real-life or otherwise) is your thing, you might consider sending him and email.

Here are some of the other fun things we found around the web this week:

  • Bill Amend's thoughts on the Star Wars universe, courtesy of the latest Foxtrot cartoon. (Foxtrot)
  • Literary nail art--I think Where the Wild Things Are is my favorite. (Flavorwire)
  • Apparently, it's LOTR day here at Fantasy Matters--here's the trailer for The Return of the King, done in LEGOs, of course. (YouTube)
  • The British Science Fiction Association has announced their shortlist for the 2011 BSFA Awards. (Locus)
  • Apparently, Effie Trinket wears Alexander McQueen in the new Hunger Games movie--here's more about the fashion seen in this upcoming film. (Fashionista)
  • January is coming to a close, and as we think about February, we might want to take on Mary Robinette Kowal's challenge--to make February a month of letters. (Mary Robinette Kowal)
  • And finally, as suggested by Marcos Faria, Emily Gravett's wonderful and adorable guide to drawing dragons! (The Guardian)
Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!
