Fantastically Fun Fridays: February 24, 2012

It's Friday, which means it's time to let loose a bit and have some fun!  And what better way to have fun than to read some nursery rhymes with George R. R. Martin (ok, not the real one, but this guy seems fun, too):

Here are some other things we thought you might enjoy:

  • Want to visit Tatooine on your next vacation?  Given that many of the buildings from the Star Wars films still exist in Tunisia, this might be easier than you think. (LosApos)
  • From the students at the Media Design School comes a short film based on the sci-fi world of Dr. Grordbort. (Vimeo)
  • And the award for this afternoon's most heart-warming story goes to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, who built a larger-than-life drivable R2D2 for a boy with leukemia.  I find it hilarious that they built a kill switch on the outside so that his parents can shut him off if he gets out of control. (Design Buzz)
  • I was also really moved by these pictures of a retired World of Warcraft server--particularly the line on the inscription that reads, "To us, this server blade is more than just hardware: within the circuits and hard drive, a world of magic, adventure, and friendship thrived."  Apparently Blizzard auctioned some of these decommissioned servers off for charity--if anyone ever sees the Durotan one up for sale, let me know! (Imgur)
  • Theodora Goss lists her top 10 favorite love stories in fantasy literature. (Huffington Post)
  • Greenswillow Books editor Martha Mihalick reflects on why she loves A Wrinkle in Time. (Martha Mihalick)
  • And if you're looking for something to read over the weekend, you might want to check out the list of Nebula Award nominees for suggestions! (Locus Online)
Happy weekend, everyone!
