Midweek Fiction: Saladin Ahmed, "Where Virtue Lives"

There's always a risk inherent in buying a new book from a debut author, when the reviews aren't out yet, and even if they are, maybe the critics' taste is not your own. Even when the early buzz is very favorable, it would be nice to have a sample, some way to see if the story really is that cool.

"Where Virtue Lives" is a short story set in the same universe as Throne of the Crescent Moon. It's a great way to meet the world and the characters, and whet your appetite for Ahmed's debut novel. "Where Virtue Lives" was originally published in April 2009 at Beneath Ceaseless Skies.
