Monday Fiction: "The Bacchae," by Elizabeth Hand

Elizabeth Hand is one of the best writers currently working today, at any length, in any genre. She writes intelligent dark myths that are haunting and true, and has a particular gift for language that is so richly textured it seems like you should be able to feel it on the page.

If you have not already read her work, her short story, "The Bacchae," is a terrific place to start. "The Bacchae" originally appeared in Interzone in 1991, and is reprinted this month in Nightmare (a magazine I highly recommend if you are looking for good short horror fiction).
