Fantastically Fun Fridays: December 16, 2011

I meant to let you all know about this right when it happened, but it slipped my mind--better late than never, I guess.  Anyways, Neil Gaiman was in a recent Simpsons episode that is a hilarious spoof of, well, writing best-selling books, Twilight, and Gaiman himself.  It's available free on Hulu (although I'm not sure for how long), and it's certainly worth checking out:

Gaiman talks more about the episode over on his blog, including the kind of snacks he ate while watching it.

Here are some more of the fun things we found for you this week:

  • Penguin authors make an anti-censorship video. (YouTube)
  • We posted Kat Howard's "year's best" list earlier this week; here is Lev Grossman's list. (NPR)
  • Speaking of lists, here is a list of 10 genre-changing sci-fi films. (Listverse)
  • Eleven fashion designer's sketch Katniss Everdeen's "girl on fire" dress from The Hunger Games. (InStyle)
  • John Scalzi on flying snowmen and the suspension of disbelief. (Whatever)
  • A fascinating post from Nnedi Okorafor on H.P. Lovecraft, racism, and the World Fantasy Award statue. (Nnedi's Wahala Zone Blog)
  • Two missing Doctor Who episodes have been found.  I wonder if they used the TARDIS to go back and get them. (Yes, I realize that thousands of others have made that joke, but it's Friday, so I'm going to say it anyways.) (BBC)
  • And boy oh boy, I can't wait until April.  The cold winds are rising! (YouTube)
Have a great weekend, everyone!  And if you're taking finals, grading papers or exams, or dealing with end-of-the-semester or pre-holiday stress, may the Force be with you!
