Our Fantastic Favorites: The Princess Bride

A conventional choice, certainly, and unlikely to surprise anyone who knows me, but one of my fantastic favorites is the movie The Princess Bride. Yes, while I've read and loved the book, this is the rare instance where the movie version is better. It really does have everything - a terrific cast, brilliant and eminently quotable dialogue, a gorgeous soundtrack, fencing done well, and true love.

  1. When I bought my first foil, I held it close to my face and said "My name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die".

    My wife laughed, of course.

    1. One of the things I love most is that I still hear fencers quote the dialogue to each other when training. It is just that fun.

  2. Now why do you find the movie better than the book? One thing I find amazing is the fact that it's a very faithful version, but somehow it's almost like a different story. Maybe it's because of the "story behind the story", which is completely different, and the literary one works perfectly for a book while the movie one is better fit for film.

I truly enjoy the book's ending - bitter, sarcastic.
