Comics/Graphic Novel

Peter S. Beagle's The Last Unicorn is one of the great works of fantasy literature.  It is a beautiful, haunting story of loneliness, and love, and finding one's place in the world.  Like Neil Gaiman's Stardust, it is a fairy tale for both children and adults, and it is a story that is as magical today as when it was first publishd over 40 years ago.

So when I learned that it had been adapted as a graphic novel, I immediately found a copy and read it.

It was beautiful.  Astonishingly beautiful.

I was at the beach with my two sons in late July of 2010 when I got a call from Joe Hill:

“Hey, you feel like adapting my short story, "The Cape," for IDW?”

And that was it. More was said, but that’s basically how it all got started.

The first thing you should do is mark your calendar for tomorrow. Tomorrow is when the legacy edition of Issue #1 of "The Cape" will be published. This is exciting not only because the stand-alone issue was so good it got turned into a series and nominated for an Eisner, but also because tomorrow, the writer of "The Cape," Jason Ciaramella, is going to be stopping by Fantasy Matters to talk about writing comics.
