This past year, I was introduced to Scott McCloud's fantastic work in Understanding Comics. It's a fascinating book for anyone who enjoys comics or graphic novels, and I found it particularly helpful as a teacher--it gave my students language to talk about a medium that they enjoyed but didn't have much critical experience with. I'll say more about McCloud's work this afternoon in conjunction with Jeff Smith's Bone, and particularly, what makes this comic so compelling.
We have other exciting things for you this week as well, including another post from R.J. Huneke about Tim Burton's recently released film Dark Shadows, a comedy/horror based on the soap opera from the late 1960s. Kat Howard has more short stories for you, we have more of the fantastic in the fine arts, and much more!
We hope you can come back and join us!
